Harford 4-H Clubs Inc. Camp Caretaker
The 4-H Camp Caretaker plays a vital role in ensuring our camp facilities and grounds remain safe, clean, attractive, and fully operational year-round. This hands-on position requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who takes pride in maintaining a welcoming environment for campers, staff, renters, and visitors.
Harford County 4-H Clubs, Inc. (operating the Harford County 4-H Camp and Deer Creek Overlook) Location: Deer Creek Overlook, Street, MD (Harford County) Position Type: Part-Time (10-25 hours per week, flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as needed)
Compensation
- Living Accommodation, with Utilities and Phone Bill covered.
- $200.00 per Monthly Stipend; potential for seasonal bonuses based on camp success.

- April 1st, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Property and Grounds Maintenance
- Perform routine grounds care, including mowing, trimming, weeding, leaf blowing, mulching, branch removal, and related tasks.
- Maintain buildings and structures through power washing, trash removal before/during/after camps and events, and returning equipment (e.g., brooms, trash cans) to designated locations.
- Remove trash from dorms, craft barn, pool area, and exterior locations during camps and rentals.
- Conduct snow removal from roads (including to DCO), parking lots, and sidewalks as needed.
- Prepare buildings for winter by completing winterization tasks (e.g., turning off water) in November; reverse these processes in spring.
- Ensure all areas are “event-ready” by the evening before events (currently by 6:00 PM on Thursdays).
- Perform daily drive-through inspections of the grounds to maintain exterior aesthetics, ensure lights are on/off as appropriate, remove trash, and address any issues.
- Conduct interior building checks every other day to identify and resolve potential problems.
- Close the camp gate each night.
- Keep grounds presentable at all times, as guests frequently visit for tours.
Specialized Maintenance
- Share in regular pool maintenance during operating months, including daily evening testing of pool water in-season.
- Maintain the golf cart, including spring servicing and winterization.
- Change oil in kitchen fryers at least three times per year (or as directed).
- Perform light general maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, repairing/replacing door and window screens, touch-up painting, and similar repairs.
- Monitor all grounds and buildings to ensure everything functions properly; promptly repair or replace items as possible, or notify the board of issues requiring further attention. Address emergencies immediately.
Oversight
- Provide supervision and guidance to the Assistant Caretaker; share updates with the Camp Administrator and Board of Directors.
Communication and Reporting
- Maintain open, prompt, and professional communication with the Camp Administrator . In their absence, direct communication to the Vice President of the Board of Directors .
- Attend monthly board meetings (currently the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM).
- Meet monthly with the Camp Administrator to review past, present, and upcoming activities.
- Immediately report mechanical issues, emergencies, or urgent situations to the board via email (or text the Camp Administrator and Vice President of the Board if email is impractical), followed by a full email to the board within 24 hours.
- Serve as the 24-hour on-call point of contact during summer camps via personal cell phone, responding promptly and professionally to any issues.
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall operation and success of the 4-H Camp.
